What makes a bag sustainable?

A sustainable bag is one where the material, the dyes, the packaging and the people who made it all hold up to scrutiny. Ecoright bags are made from recycled plastic (rPET) and 100% organic cotton, coloured with azo-free dyes, shipped in post-consumer recycled packaging, and sewn in facilities certified by SMETA 4-Pillar and Fairtrade. What is rPET fabric?

rPET is fabric spun from used plastic bottles instead of virgin polyester. It's durable, water-resistant and keeps bottles out of landfill. Ecoright has recycled over 4 lakh plastic bottles into bags since 2019 — bottles that would otherwise sit in a landfill for 400 years now carry your laptop to work.

Is organic cotton actually better?

Organic cotton is grown without pesticides and uses significantly less water than conventional cotton. Switching to it has saved Ecoright roughly 57 lakh litres of water. Our facilities also run on solar power and harvest rainwater — the solar alone saves enough energy each year to run 1.77 million bulbs for a day.

Several are. Bags made from rPET are water-resistant by nature of the fabric, which covers an unexpected downpour, a spilled bottle and a sweaty run. Check the product page for the material — if it says recycled polyester, it will handle rain; cotton canvas styles won't.

What does B Corp certification mean?

B Corp certification means a company has been independently verified against standards for social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. It covers everything from how we treat the people who make our bags to what we do with our waste. Ecoright is a certified B Corporation — the short answer to "are you actually sustainable or just saying it".
